The government of Balochistan has decided closure of educational institutions from December 1 and three-month closure in cold areas of the province.
Balochistan Education Minister Yar Muhammad Rind said in a statement that educational institutions will remain closed for three months in cold areas, whereas the examinations will be conducted before the commencement of vacations.
Meanwhile, the novel coronavirus cases have been reported in another government school in Karachi. The cases have been diagnosed in Government Boys Primary School Lyari.
The school has been closed for five days after Covid-19 positive cases detected in a report issued by the Benazir Bhutto Medical College, Lyari. The district education officer South has said that the school building will be disinfected.
The tally of government schools closed in Karachi due to the pandemic has reached 15 with this recent case, while seven private academic institutions have also been closed due to Covid-19 cases.
Meanwhile, three accused of a case produced in the City Court for remand were diagnosed with Covid-19 positive on Tuesday. The accused namely Adnan, Javed Rind and Nawaz were detected with coronavirus positive, when they underwent diagnostic tests before sending them to jail, a police report said. The jail authorities refused to accept the coronavirus positive accused, police said.
The police officer who was producing the accused in the court has also contracted the virus, Prosecutor Shamim Ahmed told the judge. The accused were healthy when they were first produced before the court, the prosecutor said.
The incident indicated the spread of Covid-19 infection in police station lock-ups. The court ordered the police to admit the ailing accused in a hospital for medical care. A court official said that the incident has scared the court staff, which has a rush of people in their surroundings as routine. In Hyderabad, three schools were closed for five days after the emergence of novel coronavirus cases. A total of 6,340 cases of the pandemic have been reported so far in the city, the health department said in its statement. The tally of active cases in the city has reached to 980 after recent spike in cases.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, the director schools has said that most of the educational institutions were used as polling stations and a large number of people visited the schools during the recent elections. He said that the government has taken the decision to disinfect the educational institutions.
All precautionary measures will be taken to avoid the spread of coronavirus by carrying out disinfection, and using the spray, said the education officer, adding that the schools will be reopened on November 24 across the province
