ISLAMABAD : Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, spokesperson to Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto-
Zardari, expressed his surprise over government’s silence and inaction on serious allegations against Chairman CPEC
Authority and SAPM on Information and Broadcasting Gen (retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa.
“Allegations of unexplained wealth
and business interests in multiple jurisdictions unearthed by journalist Ahmad Noorani are in stark contrast with
the declaration submitted under oath by the Special Assistant to the PM,” said Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar.
“Surely a government that prides itself on its controversial anti-corruption drive should have jumped into action by
now. On the contrary, what we have seen is a deafening silence on part of the government,” added Senator Khokhar.
“This is a test case for the government and NAB. We have seen them act swiftly when it comes to nabbing the
Opposition but will they act in a similar manner against an SAPM? These are serious allegations and must be
thoroughly investigated.”
“Opposition has been consistently calling for declarations to be made by un-elected members
of the cabinet. Now that they’ve been made all SAPM’s/advisers should face similar scrutiny as elected members. This
might as well be just the tip of the iceberg!”
While the PPP maintains that any allegations against public office-
holders must be proved in courts of law affording them a fair trial, equality before law and treatment in accordance
with the law should be the same for everyone.
“We will not allow double standards: one for the government and the
other for the Opposition,” added Senator Khokhar.
