Book on the history of Kohistan launched

Sindhi Adabi Sangat Thatta chapter launched the book of young historian and writer Jokhiyo Jissarat Ilyas on Sunday. The book titled “CHAPPAR AEEN CHAMAR’’comprises salient cultural, environmental, and geographical features of Kohistan and Malmari areas of district Thatta.
The book launching ceremony was attended by renowned historian Muhammad Ali Manjhi, agronomist Obhayo Khan Kaushik, veteran Journalist Muhammad Iqbal Khwaja, Ramzan Memon, Mahboob Brohi, Iqbal Jakhro, family members of the writer, and people from different walks of like.
During his address, Jokhiyo Jisarat said that it took him around two consecutive years to compile and write his book that carried almost all aspects of Kohistani history adding that he did special research work for compiling the history of the world-famous black mountain locally called “ Karo Jabal’’. “This book is not an end itself but a beginning and will attract history buffs for further research on the environmental features of Kohistan and Malmari ‘’, said the author.
Eminent historian and author of several books Dr. Muhammad Ali Manjhi said that; Youth indulging in literary work was an encouraging sign adding that the future of Sindhi literature was bright and glittering. He further said that seniors should guide young writers that would help us preserve our history more efficiently.
Stalwart journalist Muhammad Iqbal eulogized the efforts of the young writer and said that literary activities showed that our society was well on the path of progress and “ I hope that this intellectual journey of our society will continue without any hurdle”; he held.
The wife of the writer and a well-known researcher Sindhu Sindhi said that her husband was optimistic about writing a book on the history of his native home Kohistan and he made relentless efforts to make it possible. She claimed that JIsarat Ilyas has written over 1000 research articles already published in different English, Urdu, and Sindhi dailies and weekly magazines.
