Prime Minister Imran Khan said that BRT Peshawar has revolutionized public transport system and since the start of its operations in Aug 2020 more than 71 million people have travelled in it.
In a tweet praising performance of BRT, PM wrote that over 250K commuters use this facility on daily basis out of which 20% are women and 60% are from low-income groups.
Spokesperson KPK government Barrister Saif on Friday said that BRT recognized as a Gold Standard BRT service by the International Technical Standard Committee of the BRT scoring 97 out of 100 – meaning it is consistent in almost all respects with international best practices.
Saif also said that this status is given on the basis of introducing unique routs for passengers, provision of safe travel facility, increase in the percentage of women passengers and easy access for disable persons.
Saif added that only 6 countries have secured BRT Gold Standard Service award up till now. International Committee conducted an independent and just scrutiny of BRT services and some of committee members travelled through BRT without introducing their identity.
