Cabinet approves induction of Aftab Sultan as chairman NAB

Federal cabinet has accorded approval to appoint former DG Intelligence Bureau (IB) Aftab Sultan as chairman NAB.

The decision was taken in the cabinet meeting held under the Prime Minister (PM) Shahbaz Sharif here Thursday to deliberate over diverse matters.

Government sources said PM Shahbaz Sharif had proposed name of Bashir Memon, Ikhlaq Tarar, Aftab Sultan and Nasir Khosa for the post of chairman NAB.
PM made consultation with the opposition leader Raja Riaz and coalition partners on the name of Aftab Sultan. After taking the allied parties into confidence, Aftab Sultan name was agreed upon for the slot of chairman NAB.
Information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has confirmed the induction of Aftab Sultan as chairman NAB.

Aftab Sultan belonged to police service who was grade- 22 officer. He has held several senior posts in police and remained DG IB. He enjoys the reputation of honest and upright officer. His name was proposed by PPP.

He has served as IG Punjab and commandant National Police Academy. His father and mother in law have remained MNA twice.

Aftab Sultan hails from Faisalabad.

Aftab Sultan remained DIG Sargodha during Pervez Musharraf tenure in 2002 and he was suspended during Musharraf led government. During 2013 general election he held the post of IG Punjab.
