The spokesperson of the provincial government Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif called for transparency regarding proposed constitutional amendments.
In a statement issued here on Thursday Barrister Saif said that careful consideration in constitutional matters is mandatory and the federal government should follow due course for enacting legislation in the parliament.
He asked the federal government and leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) to share the draft of the constitutional package with the public through media outlets, citing significant international criticism, including within Pakistan.
Mr Saif alleged that even lawmakers haven’t seen the draft of the proposed amendments, adding that concerns in the lawmakers are increasing as the federal government failed to muster support of the opposition in the National Assembly.
The draft hasn’t been shared publicly or with lawmakers, he said and urged the apex court to intervene for larger public interests.
KP government spokesperson maintained that the situation underscores the need for open discussion and careful consideration in constitutional matters.
