Caretaker PM, CM Punjab discuss polls related matters

Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Hassan Askari on Thursday met with Caretaker Prime Minister Justice Retired Nasirul Mulk in Lahore.
During the meeting, they reaffirmed their commitment to ensure holding of transparent, fair and free general elections of 2018.
Speaking on this occasion, the caretaker Chief Minister said that all arrangements are being finalized for holding the general elections in a peaceful atmosphere in Punjab.
Earlier today, the Senate Standing Committee on Interior was informed by a representative of the General Headquarters (GHQ) that troops were only involved in improving the security situation.
Informing the committee’s meeting today, the army’s representative said, “We are only working to improve the security situation on the instructions of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP),” adding that troops were liable to follow the electoral body’s code of conduct.
The GHQ representative further said that the armed forces had always lent support to civil institutions.
