The Capital Development Authority (CDA), through its Environment Wing, has launched an extensive plantation and landscaping campaign across Islamabad aimed at strengthening the capital’s green character, improving environmental quality and enhancing its natural beauty.
The campaign includes large-scale and strategic plantation along major roads, interchanges, green belts, public spaces, parks and other prominent locations across the capital.
As part of the initiative, Tabebuia trees, known for their spectacular pink blossoms, are being planted at Serena Interchange. Once in full bloom, the trees are expected to add vibrant colour to the capital and enhance the visual appeal of one of Islamabad’s important gateways.
The CDA said the campaign reflects its continued commitment to preserving Islamabad’s identity as a green, clean and well-planned capital while ensuring that urban development remains aligned with environmental sustainability and the needs of future generations.
The plantation drive is not limited to beautification but forms part of a broader environmental strategy aimed at increasing green cover, improving the urban landscape, providing shade, supporting cleaner air and creating healthier and more pleasant surroundings for citizens.
Strategic plantation along major roads and interchanges will also help develop attractive green corridors and create a more welcoming environment for residents, visitors and international guests travelling through the capital.
The CDA Environment Wing is adopting a planned approach by focusing on suitable locations, landscape design, tree diversity and long-term maintenance and protection of planted areas.
The authority said the objective was to ensure that plantation produces sustainable and visible environmental benefits rather than remaining limited to a seasonal activity.
Islamabad has long been recognised for its lush greenery, tree-lined avenues, parks and scenic natural landscape. The CDA said the current campaign would further strengthen this distinctive character and help preserve the capital’s environmental legacy.
The initiative also seeks to establish a stronger connection between Islamabad’s built environment and its natural surroundings, as well-maintained green spaces contribute not only to the city›s beauty but also to a healthier, more comfortable and liveable urban environment.
The CDA described every tree planted today as an investment in the future of Islamabad and said the campaign would help create a greener environment for present and future generations.
The authority has also called upon citizens, educational institutions, businesses and civil society to support the plantation drive by protecting trees, respecting green spaces and contributing to the preservation of Islamabad’s natural environment.
The CDA said transforming Islamabad into a truly green and environment-friendly capital requires not only institutional efforts but also collective participation, cooperation and ownership by citizens.
The authority said public appreciation of sustained plantation and landscaping initiatives reflected growing recognition of efforts aimed at improving the city›s environment and making public spaces more attractive and welcoming.
The CDA expressed its commitment to developing an Islamabad that is greener in landscape, cleaner in environment, more colourful in character and more sustainable in the future.
