The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has sealed three important buildings in Blue Area, Islamabad, over violations of fire and life safety regulations. According to the CDA, the Shaheed-e-Millat Secretariat, State Life Building and Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) building were sealed after serious deficiencies were identified in their fire safety arrangements.
The CDA Fire and Emergency Services Directorate conducted inspections of the buildings and reviewed fire prevention measures, emergency exits and evacuation arrangements.
The authority said it has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against violations of fire safety regulations and that action will be taken in accordance with the rules against buildings failing to meet prescribed safety standards.
CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf has declared protection of human lives a top priority and directed the relevant authorities to adopt zero tolerance towards serious fire safety violations.
The CDA Building Control Section has also been directed to ensure that the identified deficiencies are rectified within the stipulated period. The authority further directed that fire safety arrangements in all government and private buildings be reviewed immediately.
The CDA said clearly marked emergency exits and adequate evacuation arrangements can save lives during emergencies.
The authority added that buildings would be given an opportunity to rectify safety deficiencies; however, continued non-compliance would not be tolerated.
The CDA reiterated that no compromise would be made on fire and life safety standards.
