China reportedly started delivery of two distinct versions of its fifth-generation J-35 stealth fighter.
One configured for the PLAAF and two other carrier-capable variants tailored for naval aviation. J-35A (Land-based): Built for the PLA Air Force. This variant features a single nose wheel, revised wing planform, and conventional runway compatibility.
J-35 (Carrier-based): Designed for the PLA Navy, this version includes folding wings, a launch bar, and a tailhook for CATOBAR operations. Both variants evolved from the FC-31 demonstrator and are expected to be powered by Chinese WS-13E or WS-19 engines. The J-35’s stealth features and multirole capability aim to enhance China’s power projection, particularly in contested maritime zones.
