A spokesman for China’s Ministry of Commerce recently responded to a reporter’s question about the EU’s counter-subsidies investigation into China’s electric vehicles.
On October 4, the European Commission issued an announcement that it had decided to launch a counter-subsidies investigation into electric vehicle imports from China, a reporter asked.
What is China’s comment on this? The Chinese spokesperson responded by saying that the EU has only started this investigation based on its own assumptions about the so-called subsidy items and risks of harm, but there is no concrete evidence for this, and it is also a violation of the relevant rules of the WTO.
The EU asked China to conduct consultations in a very short time and provide effective consultation materials, which seriously damaged China’s trade rights.
The spokesman added that at the 10th China-EU High-Level Economic and Trade Dialogue held recently, China made it clear that the EU would protect its industry in the name of “fair trade”. The investigative measures taken are essentially protectionist measures, which will seriously affect the global automotive industry chain and supply chain, including the EU, and will have a negative impact on China-EU economic and trade relations.
China urges the EU to strive to maintain the stability of the global industrial chain and supply chain and the stability of the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership, to make wise use of trade assistance measures, new energy, including electric vehicles.
Promote industry cooperation, and create a fair and non-discriminatory market environment for the joint development of the China-EU electric vehicle industry.
China will pay close attention to the European side’s follow-up investigation procedures and firmly protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.
