City Gulbahar Girls College and Frontier College for Women Peshawar recorded opening day victories in the Inter-College Girls T20 Cricket Championship, which got under way here at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Ground under the aegis of Directorate Sports Higher Education Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday.
Vice Chancellor Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University was the chief guest on this occasion and formally inaugurated the Championship in which a total of 16 girls colleges are taking part. Organizing Secretary Miss Najma Qazi, Deputy Director Sports Arhsad Hussain, Deputy Director Sports SBBWU Miss Mariyyah Samin Jan, international cricketer Salma Faiz, Lecturers in HPE and Sports Miss Afsheen Khan, Miss Huma, Miss Gul Sanobar, Miss Sadaf, Miss Sadia Saeed, Miss Huria, officials players and large number of students spectators were also present.
In the first match FCW skipper Maria won the toss and invited Ekka Ghund College Mohmand District to bat first. GGDC Ekka Ghund made only 42 runs with Sawaira, Laila and Aneela contributing the runs. Swaira (13) and Laila and Aneela scored 10 runs each, none of the other batter could cross the double figures. Maria took three wickets, Zakra and Faiza got one wicket each.
In reply, strong Frontier College for Women chased the target for the loss of one wicket with Maria (23) and Faiza (16) were the main runs contributors. For Ekka Ghund College Shumaila got a wicket. Thus FCW won the match by nine wickets.
In the second match, City Gulbahar Girls College won the toss and invited Bacha Khan Girls College to bat first. Bacha Girls College made 63 runs in which Lubna, Saira, Irum made 13, 11 and 10 runs respectively and in reply, City Gulbahar chased the target for the loss of one wicket and thus won the match by nine wickets. For City Gulbahar Husna, Haseena and Saba were the main contributors. Husna made an elegant knock of 24 runs including four boundaries, Saba made another quick-fire 19 runs and Haseena scored 13 runs with three boundaries.
