CM-KP to launch decisive anti-drug campaign across province: Barrister Saif

Special Assistant to Chief Minister for Information and public relations Barrister Muhammad Ali Safe has said that all possible steps would be taken to make Peshawar free from drug users.
Special Assistant to Chief Minister shared that Chief Minister Mahmood Khan will launch a special decisive anti-drug campaign across the province on July,19.
He made these remarks while attending the drug Free Peshawar Campaign review meeting chaired by Commissioner Peshawar Riaz Khan Mehsud here on Friday. The meeting was informed that during the 50 days drug-free Peshawar campaign 1188 drug addicts, including 13 women, have been taken into custody and admitted in various rehabilitation centers. 13 women are also included in the briefing.
“Out of 143 patients, HIV / AIDS and other diseases have been confirmed. Of which 139 patients are being treated at a private hospital in Islamabad while four people are being treated at Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar,” it added.
The participants were informed that so far, the families of 281 people have been contacted whereas the drug addicts in custody were aged between 15 to 51 years of age.
It stated that despite the provincial government campaign against drug addicted people about 700 to 800 drug addicts were still on the streets.
Mr Saif said that Chief Minister Mahmood Khan will convene an important meeting on July 19 to launch a mega and decisive crackdown across the province against the drug addiction persons.
He said that the provincial government campaign in the provincial capital for a drug free society set an example for the whole country, adding that the provincial government would also provide decent employment opportunity to those people who have been rehabilitated from drug addiction.
The provincial government has also decided to conduct awareness seminars in schools, colleges and universities at the end of summer vacation against the addiction of drugs, he added.
