MANSEHRA: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak declared Baffa a tehsil at a gathering here on Monday.
The announcement whipped the people into a frenzy and they stood and raised their hands to express their happiness.
“I announce Baffa-Pakhal a tehsil as it is your longstanding demand. Mansehra is a big district and people need another tehsil,” the chief minister said amid loud cheers.Speaking on the occasion, Pervez Khattak counted his government’s achievements, saying he was proud of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan from whom he drew the inspiration to work for the betterment of the people.
“I was fed up with the future of this country owing to misdeeds of the leaders of political parties, but Imran Khan gave me a ray of hope. I was the first minister who joined the PTI,” said Pervez Khattak.
He said chief ministers in history of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa looted the exchequers and promoted corruption in the province but it was he who set a precedence of corruption-free province.
“I first offered myself for accountability and our cabinet, and lawmakers. We have never indulged in any sort of corruption,” claimed Pervez Khattak.
Recalling his joining of PTI, he said that his decision to join Imran Khan-led party was critical as all his friends and even family members opposed it but he stood firm.
He said that his government had taken drastic steps to put health and education and other departments in order to serve the people.
Pervez Khattak said his government was working to restore self-respect of the people and eradicate corruption from the society.
“The prime minster spends billions of rupees on the construction of roads and bridges, but we are restoring the respect of the people and ending corruption is mega development projects,” he claimed.
Meanwhile, the people of Shinkiari took to the streets, saying they would never accept Baffa as headquarters of Baffa-Pakhal tehsil.“We would prefer to stay with Mansehra tehsil if our demand is not met,” said a protester, Mazhar Bashir.
