Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Wednesday formally inaugurated the Under-21 Games at the Peshawar Sports Complex, with around 5,000 male and female players from seven regions of the province participating.
Addressing the opening ceremony, the Chief Minister said 38 sports competitions for men and 18 for women are being organized under the games. He praised the enthusiasm of the players, describing the competitions as likely to be “interesting and thrilling.”
Sohail Afridi said the provincial government aims to promote sports among youth and attract them to sports fields instead of guns. He highlighted that the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium is fully ready and that Peshawar will host Pakistan Super League matches this season.
Urging teams to compete vigorously, he said the government is taking practical steps to develop sports infrastructure and identify top talent to represent KP and Pakistan in various sports. Fireworks lit up the ceremony, accompanied by a spectacular march-past by the players.
