Traditional Games got underway here at Karak district under the auspices of the Directorate General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at Karak Sports Complex on Thursday.
In a colourful opening ceremony Assistant Commissioner Takht Nusrat Atif Jalib was the chief guest who formally inaugurated the Games wherein a large number of spectators were also present.
Deputy Director Sports Operations Jamshed Baloch, District Sports Officer Amir Zahid Shah, Administrative Officers Irshad Khan and Officer Safdar Fahim were also present. The children competed in tug-of-war, gali danda, bilori and musical chairs. Volleyball competitions were held on the opening day in which teams from all over the district participated. The final was played between Yawar Club Takht Nusrati and Rashid Club Karak in which Yawar Club won by 3-2.
Assistant Commissioner Atif Jalib appreciated the efforts of the Directorate General and assured cooperation from the district administration. Horse dancing, javelin throwing and other traditional sports will be held on Friday.
In this region, traditional games are being held in Karak, Kohat and Hangu which started from Karak. Archery, stone lifting, hiking, shotball and gully danda competitions will be held in Kohat from June 11 while tug-of-war and volleyball will be held in Hangu from June 12.
There will be competitions in Archery, Khai, Kabaddi, Guinea and Gali Danda. Till June, Batagram will have competitions in face-to-face teaching, tug-of-war, gali danda, crystal and volleyball competitions. ‘Stone Lifting’ Kabaddi and Tug of War while Gatka ‘Stone Lifting’ Kabaddi and Tug of War competitions will be held on June 28 in Abbottabad.
