The govt contractors of the Communication & Works (C&W) Department of Kurram District have alleged illegal and corrupt practices by Xen of the C&W department Lower Kurram who according to them granted contracts to his blue-eyed boys without following the due course of law and legal practice.
While addressing a press conference in Sadda Press Club, the contractors of the Lower and Central Kurram District warned if the officer in question Xen, Ziaul Islam continued with his malpractices, they would be left with no option but to lodge a complaint with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Anti-Corruption department.
Addressing the press conference, Vice President of the Contractors Union Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Irshad Ali, Sarfraz Khan, Haji Murad Ali, Haji Sultan and Malik Nasir said recently the C&W department of Kurram district allotted contracts for construction of 27 roads and five schools to the non-resident contractors. This is unfair and quite unjust action on part of the department, they said and vowed to resist it.
Giving further details, they said the local contractors had boycotted the tender process as a protest over participation of the non-resident contractors. Ziaul Islam while taking advantage of the boycott, awarded contracts to his favourite contractors, they said. The contracts were awarded overnight and sent to Hangu Circle, they further alleged.
If these contracts were not withdrawn, we would be forced to take extreme steps and its responsibility would be solely on Xen Ziaul Islam, they said. Earlier, before the press conference, they staged a protest demonstration holding placards and chanting slogans against the Xen.
