PESHAWAR
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority on Wednesday sealed a counterfeit ‘Rooh Afza’ production unit on Charsadda road and discarded 4000 liters of spurious drink.
The operation was carried out on the instructions of Director General (DG) of the authority during which more than 4,000 liters of counterfeit beverages were seized from the unit and the unit was sealed for manufacturing unhealthy beverages, said a handout.
According to the authority, the unit was set up inside the house where fake red liquor was being prepared by mixing different chemicals.
The drinks were being supplied to different parts of the city for Ramadan, which was stopped on the spot, it said.
A large quantity of packing material was also seized from the unit during the raid, DG Food Safety Authority Shah Rukh Ali Khan said that crackdown on counterfeit drinks has been intensified before Ramadan.
He said that strict legal action would be taken against those who harmed public health.
Shah Rukh Ali Khan said that the citizens should also support the Food Safety Authority to ensure full action against the adulteration mafia and in case of any complaint against those who trade in unhealthy items, he added.
