Covid claims 16 more lives in KP


Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Friday reported 997 fresh Covid cases taking the active infection count to 13,399, according to a health department report. With 16 Covid-related fatalities, the death toll in the province has reached 6,103, the report said.
Among the fresh infections, Peshawar reported 352 cases followed by 99 in Mansehra, 135 in Kohat, 59 in Charsadda.
Eleven deaths were reported in Peshawar, two in Abbottabad, and one each in Swat, Mardan, and Swabi.
With 849 persons recovering from the Coronavirus infections in KP, the number of cured persons has reached 189,315.
In order to achieve 100 percent vaccination target in the provincial capital, the health department has decided to engage CBV teams of the district for door to door Covid-19 vaccination.
According to a notification issued by the deputy commissioner Peshawar the CBV teams will visit 100 households daily to complete their catchment area within three days to strengthen district performance.
“All logistic support provided by the Health department for the assigned activity. Monitoring and supervision model of polio campaigning shall be followed during the 3 days activity,” the notification said.
Peshawar, which has a 35 percent vaccination rate, has recorded the highest number of deaths due to coronavirus cases in the province.
Orakzai, Swat, Charsadda, Dir Lower, Haripur, Chitral Upper, Abbottabad and Buner districts have achieved 100 percent target during the ongoing vaccination campaign, said a health department report.
Shangla has reported 14.47pc, the lowest vaccination rate in KP. Lower Kurram recorded 20.58pc vaccination, Battagram 30.21pc, South Waziristan 32pc, Kohistan Lower 32.93pc and Bannu 42.1pc.
It is to note here that the provincial government, on February 2, has initiated the 14-day vaccination drive in KP but yet achieved 100 percent vaccination results in some parts of the province.
