The Crime and Terrorism Journalists Forum (CTJF) organised a walk to pay tributes to the martyr cops on Police Martyrs Day today.
The walk was arranged at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines in Peshawar.
The CTJF forum members Vice President Qari Zia, General Secretary Qaiser Khan, ex-president Tariq Waheed, Inspector General of Police Mohammad Tahir, Capital City Police Officer Qazi Jamilur Rehman, DIG Fasihuddin, senior officers and members of the CTJF participated in the walk to pay tribute to the fallen policemen.
At the end of the walk, CTJF General Secretary Qaiser Khan and IGP Muhammad Tahir paid glowing tributes to the cops who sacrificed their lives for the protection of citizens.
The participants also laid floral wreath on the Yadgar-e-Shuhada and prayed for their souls.
IGP Muhammad Tahir told reporters that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police’s sacrifices were not hidden from anyone. He explained that the list of Shuhada included officers from the rank of additional IG to constables. The names of the people who had given their life for the sake of country achieved the highest rank of martyrdom.
The IGP said that Pakistan is a frontline country against terrorism and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police are playing the role of frontline police. On the occasion, IGP Muhammad Tahir asked all to make preparations and celebrate the Police Martyrs Day with pomp and show today.
He said that the cooperation of the journalist community in the fight against terrorism is a worthwhile contribution. He added that police and journalists fight terrorism and extremism.
The IGP said KP police had performed duties on the frontline in the war against terror in very testing times and destroyed nefarious designs of many enemies of peace.
He referred to the sacrifice rendered by senior officers including DIG Malik Saad Shaheed, FC Commandant, Safwat Ghayur Shaheed, SP Abdul Kalam and SP Khurshid Khan Shaheed besides DIG Abid Ali Shaheed that set a great example of chivalry for police officers.
He said it was the sacrifice of police officers that helped returned peace to the province.
The IGP said Quran Khwani, blood donation camps, awareness camps and walks were held all over the province on Friday to pay tribute to the brave policemen who died in terrorist attacks, blasts and suicide bombings during the last many years. A number of camps were held in Peshawar and all other regions of the province.
He said that the practicable suggestions and ideas of crime reporters and other journalists would be incorporated to celebrate the Police Martyrs Day in a fitting manner.
“We need your suggestions and guidance in this regard,” he added.
He said that peace has been restored to the province as the result of numerous sacrifices of police martyrs. “The cops and officers who sacrificed their lives for the future of the nation are our heroes. We are proud of the sacrifices of our jawans in the war on terror,” he added.
He said that highlighting the sacrifices of the martyrs was the moral and professional responsibility of media and hoped it would do its job with devotion and dedication.
