ISLAMABAD, August 14, 2026 — COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) celebrated Pakistan’s Independence Day with a flag-hoisting ceremony at its Islamabad Campus, bringing together students from its regional campuses. The celebration combined the spirit of the national day with a reflection on the responsibility of young Pakistanis to contribute to the country’s future through knowledge, leadership, innovation and service.
The proceedings commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by the hoisting of the national flag and the playing of the National Anthem.
Addressing the gathering, CUI Rector Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar, T.I., highlighted the significance of Independence Day and the University’s responsibility to prepare young people for meaningful participation in national development. He emphasized that CUI’s vision extends beyond academic qualifications to developing professionals, entrepreneurs, innovators and future leaders capable of applying their knowledge to real-world challenges.
Reflecting CUI’s commitment to a greener future, Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar, along with Islamabad Campus In-Charge Prof. Dr. Majid Iqbal, planted a sapling at the campus. Similar tree-planting activities were carried out by the students from CUI campuses, giving a practical dimension to the Independence Day celebrations and reaffirming the University’s commitment to environmental responsibility and green initiatives.
The ceremony was followed by an interactive session under CUI’s LeaderSHIFT programme, bringing the Rector into direct engagement with students from Lahore, Attock, Wah and Vehari campuses. The session focused on developing students as confident, adaptable and responsible leaders and preparing them to respond to the opportunities and challenges of a rapidly changing world. LeaderSHIFT forms part of CUI’s broader efforts to strengthen leadership and personal development among its students.
The Rector also shared CUI’s futuristic vision for education, emphasising the need for students to remain prepared for rapid technological advancement, particularly the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence. He highlighted the University’s move towards digitally enabled and adaptive learning, including the AI-based Adaptive Learning Model through the CUI Virtual Campus, alongside its wider digital transformation initiatives. The discussion also underscored the role of CUI’s 6-C Framework in helping students strengthen the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to keep pace with technological change while retaining the human and creative capabilities essential for leadership.
The interaction underscored a central message of CUI’s educational vision: that future-ready graduates must be equipped not only to adapt to change, but also to create opportunities, develop solutions and lead change. Through initiatives in leadership, adaptive learning, digital transformation, sustainability and innovation, CUI is preparing its students to engage confidently with an increasingly technology-driven world.
