Islamabad, August 10, 2026: Ms. Ma Yinghua, a Chinese PhD scholar in the Department of Computer Science, COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Abbottabad Campus, successfully defended her doctoral thesis through an online doctoral examination conducted by the University today.
The doctoral defence was conducted in accordance with the University’s prescribed examination procedures, with the participation of senior University officials, and a panel of local and international examiners.
Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar, Rector, COMSATS University Islamabad, attended the defence, along with the Controller of Examinations, Chairperson of the Department of Computer Science, and Dean, Faculty of Information Science and Technology.
The thesis was examined by a panel comprising distinguished national and international experts from Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Pak-Austria Fachhochschule: Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology (PAF-IAST), Edith Cowan University, Australia, and Politecnico di Torino, Italy.
The thesis, titled “A Deep Manifold Learning for Multi-Omics Data Integration and Analysis,” was supervised by Dr. Ahmad Khan, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science, CUI Abbottabad Campus.
The research addresses the integration and analysis of multi-omics data, including genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics, for cancer research. It employs deep manifold learning techniques to model relationships among different types of biological data, with potential applications in cancer detection and classification, prognosis assessment, and precision medicine.
The doctoral defence provided an opportunity for the candidate to present and critically defend her research before the examination panel and respond to questions concerning the methodology, findings, and contribution of the study.
The successful conduct of the defence reflects CUI’s continued commitment to maintaining rigorous standards of doctoral examination while facilitating the participation of national and international academic experts through appropriate examination modalities.
