An attempt of smuggling of foreign cloth from Afghanistan to Pakistan was jointly foiled by the custom and Frontier Corp (FC) troops here at Torkham border last night.
According to collector custom Khyber Pakthunkhwa Amjadurrehman on tip off, the custom appraisement and the border security officials stopped a coal loaded truck from Afghanistan bearing registration no KBL-3546 for inspection.
During examination a quantity of 3575 kg suiting fabric/cloth was recovered, concealed under the coal.
The seized commodity, vehicle and the driver were taken into legal custody and a first information report was lodged against it,the official said.
The price of the seized cloth was stated to be more than 11 million rupees.
Collector Amjadurrehman said that the motto of the custom department was to improve trade activities; however all necessary initiatives would be followed to discourage smuggling.
