Customs officials seize weapons worth nearly 3 crore

Customs Collectorate Enforcement seized US-made weapons worth three crore at Kohat Road Matni check post. The driver of the vehicle has been arrested, official said.
Chief Collector Customs Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Malik Kamran Azam told reporters that shipment of arms was being smuggled from Afghanistan to Pakistan.
Ahmad Raza Khan during a press conference at Customs House Peshawar said that three days now, we have been receiving reports of smuggling of foreign arms through Peshawar. On the same information, the enforcement personnel were instructed to conduct a comprehensive search of every vehicle he added.
He said that after checking a vehicle bearing number EA 7876 officials’ recovered 28 modern American rifles hidden in the compartments of the vehicle.
To a question, chief collector said it was too early to say where the weapons were being taken. He said a case registered and investigation has been launched.
