The Deputy Commissioner Kohat Muhammad Nawaz Wazir has imposed a three-month ban on swimming and boating in dams, rivers, water channels, spillways and rainwater ponds under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (Cr.P.C.) to prevent drowning incidents and safeguard public lives with immediate effect for a period of 3 months.
The restriction was necessary as rising summer temperatures attract large numbers of residents and tourists to water bodies, where risky recreational activities have increased the likelihood of fatal accidents.
The administration said the measure aims to protect human life and avert any untoward incidents by restricting access to hazardous water sites across the district.
The Deputy Commissioner warned that anyone violating the ban would face legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) for disobeying a lawful order issued by a public servant.
