PESHAWAR
Dengue cases are on the rise in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with Kohat emerging as the worst-affected district. The total number of cases reported across the province this year has reached 5,268, including 63 new cases confirmed in the last 24 hours.
According to the latest Health Department report on Thursday, Kohat has recorded 3,008 dengue cases, followed by Peshawar with 655 cases.
Of the total cases reported this year, 5,098 patients have recovered, while 169 cases remain active, health officials said.
Kohat has witnessed a significant surge in dengue infections during October, with 1,416 new cases reported in the district this month, raising concerns among health authorities.
Other affected districts include Khyber with 554 cases, Bannu with 192, Haripur with 150, Charsadda with 95 and Abbottabad with 79 cases.
Health officials said October is generally the peak month for dengue transmission. However, falling temperatures are expected to reduce mosquito breeding and the spread of the virus.
Experts predict that dengue cases may begin to decline from November 3, with a significant reduction expected over the following three weeks. However, rainfall and changing weather conditions could affect this trend.
Authorities have urged residents to prevent water from accumulating in homes, streets and vacant plots. People have also been advised to keep water containers covered and regularly clean air coolers, flowerpots and other places where stagnant water may accumulate.
Health experts stressed that public cooperation and preventive measures are essential to controlling the outbreak. They also called for stronger coordination among relevant departments and the elimination of mosquito breeding sites in affected areas to prevent further spread of the disease.
