Peshawar
The Directorate of Law and Human Rights, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), organized a one-day seminar on the theme of Human Rights at a local hotel in Peshawar. The purpose of the seminar was to promote cooperation and coordination among various departments working on human rights in the province.
Senior officials and representatives from different departments including RTS, RTI, and the Child Protection Unit participated in the seminar and briefed the audience on their respective departments’ efforts towards upholding human rights. Representatives of the Human Rights Commission stated on the occasion that Pakistan has a very strong human rights law, with offices established at the provincial and district levels. They further emphasized that in order to make this law more effective and to provide affordable and prompt justice to the public, all institutions must work together.
Officials from the Directorate of Law and Human Rights highlighted that all institutions are working towards the same goal and must take integrated measures to achieve the desired objectives.
Participants were also informed that in every district, the Additional Deputy Commissioner serves as the in-charge of human rights, and district administrations are actively working on related matters. Special attention was given in the seminar to ensuring women’s rights and addressing issues such as harassment, with an emphasis on the importance of inter-institutional cooperation and linkages in resolving these challenges.
The aim of the seminar was not only to strengthen institutional connections but also to raise public awareness about human rights and involve them in the process of delivering justice.
Participants of the event expressed hope that this seminar would prove to be an important step towards the protection and promotion of human rights in the province.
