Bad news for electricity consumers
ISLAMABAD
There is bad news for electricity consumers across country. Increase in the cost of electricity by RS 1.90 paisa per unit for government discos and Rs 1.44 paisa per unit for Karachi consumers has been approved.
NEPRA has completed hearing on applications of CPPA and K-electric.
The detailed decision will be issued later.
A separate hearing was held under the chairman NEPRA Tauseef H.Farooqui on the requests to increase in the monthly fuel price adjustment for the month of May.
Central purchasing power agency had requested for an increase of RS 2.5 paisa for government Discos consumers and RS 1.90 paisa was approved.
K-electric had requested for an increase of Rs 1.49 paisa and RS 1.44 paisa was approved.
An additional burden of RS 23 billion will be placed on the consumers of government discos while more than 2 billion on the people of Karachi in the month of May.
During the hearing, authorities have expressed serious concerns over the performance of NTDC discos and K-electric.
Chairman NEPRA remarked that they are not able to provide cheap electricity to consumers despite their desire.
