PESHAWAR: Payman Alumina Trust in collaboration with TDEA on Thursday held district convention and highlighted plights of working women. Participants of the convention underscored the rights of women and demanded Compensation C-100 and the ILO Convention on Discrimination (Employment and Profession) Convention C-111. Unequal wages and discriminatory conditions for equal value work are major concerns for women’s workforce that hinder their economic participation the added. Labor laws relating to wages and conditions for employment need to include provisions to address gender discrimination at work. Among the basic instruments of the ILO ratified by Pakistan, the Labor Laws do not adequately cover C-100 for Equal Compensation and the C-111 Convention on Discrimination (Employment and Occupation) to improve women’s participation in the workforce.
