Preparations for Local Bodies (L B) polls in Rawalpindi have reached its peaks. As per media reports, district Rawalpindi has been divided into 17 local governments. Rawalpindi city has been divided into two parts.
There will be 2 mayors and 4 deputy mayors in Rawalpindi city. 2 new tehsil councils and one new municipal committee have been carved out. Number of urban union councils have been raised from 82 to 125. City has been divided into Rawal town corporation and Pothohar town corporation. Two new tehsils including Tehsil Council Sadar and Tehsil council Cantt have been created. Daultala has been given the status of new municipal committee. There will be 22 union councils in new Tehsil Sadar Rawalpindi and 29 union councils in Tehsil Cantt.
District 2 will comprise of 2 town corporations, 5 municipal committees, 6 tehsil councils and 4 cantonment boards. There will be overall 439 local governments and 6637 union councils in all over Punjab. There will be 297 urban local governments and 2496 union councils. There will be 28 town corporations and No of union councils therein will be 1010. Total municipal corporations and their union councils stand at 34 and 573 respectively. All district councils including district council Rawalpindi have been abolished.
