7 DRCs operating in Peshawar districts

The Dispute Resolution Councils (DRCs) in the provincial capital have received a total of 10224 cases during the current year, out of which 9849 have successfully been settled, said a report issued by the capital police.
The report issued here on Wednesday said that the forum has also referred 375 disputes to legal advice. The first DRC was established in Peshawar in 2014 to bring a positive change in ‘thana culture’ and ensure prompt settlement of petty matters.
Similarly, 678 applications have been received during this year, in which 303 cases have been resolved amicably and amicably, while efforts to resolve other cases are ongoing.
According to the details, CCPO Peshawar Syed Ashfaq Anwar said that DRCs are being made more active in Peshawar keeping in mind the Pakhtun traditions in the region, so that the issues requiring public settlement are solved at their doorsteps on a priority basis.
He said that the services of the DRCs members are commendable who are providing justice based services to the citizens for free which is unprecedented.
The number of citizens contacting the DRC for solving their problems is a testament to the success, CCPO said and added that minority communities, women, traders and transgenders have been given adequate representation in the DRC forum.
Syed Ashfaq Anwar furthered that since DRCs establishment in Peshawar general public trust have been increased on the policing system.
