Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Labor, Fazal Shakur Khan, has directed the implementation of an e-transfer policy to address the teacher shortage in schools run by the Workers Welfare Board (WWB).
He emphasized that quality education must not be compromised and stressed the urgent need for better staffing and accountability.
Chairing a high-level meeting on Wednesday, the minister also ordered the introduction of a biometric attendance system for teachers and staff. He warned that non-compliance with biometric protocols would result in salary deductions, adding, “There will be no compromise on absenteeism in schools.”
The meeting, held at the Workers Welfare Board office, was attended by Secretary Muhammad Tufail Khattak, Director Finance Saifullah Zafar, Director Education Muhammad Amjad, and other key officials. During the session, the minister was briefed on various challenges facing the board.
One major concern raised was the lack of financial support from the Workers Welfare Fund in Islamabad. Officials reported that the board has not received any funds, including Rs. 640 million in outstanding scholarship dues.
The minister directed the relevant departments to immediately send formal letters demanding the release of these funds.
Fazal Shakur Khan acknowledged that while several issues have been resolved, broader reforms and improvements will take time.
“We are committed to resolving the longstanding problems of the Workers Welfare Board. Systemic reforms are underway, and more positive changes will follow,” he assured.
Later, the minister chaired an open meeting with board employees, who shared their grievances directly. After listening attentively, he issued on-the-spot orders to address their concerns, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving working conditions and educational services under the board.
