EC is asking when population census 2021 will be completed when: Supreme Court

Supreme Court (SC) while adjourning the hearing till June 13 of the petition filed by PTI against the Election Commission (EC) schedule in connection with delimitation of constituencies has directed PTI to club miscellaneous and amended petition and file them on next hearing.

A 3-member bench of SC presided over by Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan took up the case for hearing Monday.

Faisal Chaudhry counsel for PTI took the plea that implementation of schedule for delimitation of the constituencies is under way speedily. New constituencies donot enjoy the protection of article 51(5) of the constitution.

Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan remarked as per reports EC is looking towards the respective authorities. EC is asking when the population census 2021 will be completed. EC will decide on receipt of reply that the delimitation of the constituencies will be based on which population census.

Justice Munib Akhtar remarked permission was given to make amendment in the petition. But it was not filed in correct way. Will we too trace a paper from a file.

The court while directing PTI to club the miscellaneous and amended petitions and file them till next hearing adjourned the hearing of the case till June 13, 2022.
