The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet on Thursday approved a Technical Supplementary Grant (TSG) of Rs 100 billion for transfer to the Prime Minister’s Austerity Fund 2026, while also reviewing wheat procurement under the Interim National Wheat Policy (INWP) 2025-26.
The meeting, chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, was held at the Finance Division and attended by key federal ministers and senior officials.
The ECC was informed that the allocation aims to address potential fluctuations in petroleum prices amid evolving developments in the Gulf region. The Prime Minister has directed the mobilization of Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) resources to meet price differentials and provide relief to consumers.
Officials briefed the committee that the funds would be arranged through rationalization and surrender of PSDP allocations by various ministries, coordinated by the Planning Division. The ECC emphasized minimizing disruption to priority projects while ensuring adequate fiscal space. Initial surrenders have already been received, with remaining adjustments underway.
In a separate agenda, the ECC reviewed a summary from the Ministry of National Food Security and Research regarding wheat procurement for federal strategic reserves. After detailed deliberations, the committee approved procurement of up to 1.0 million metric tons of wheat through private sector participation under a transparent and competitive mechanism.
