The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a fresh schedule for Senate elections on seven general, two women, and two technocrat/ulema seats from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). According to the notification, polling will be held on July 21 at the KP Assembly building.
It may be recalled that the ECP had earlier postponed these elections on April 2, 2024, citing the Speaker’s refusal to administer the oath to newly elected members on reserved seats, leading to an incomplete electoral college.
Separately, the ECP has also issued an election schedule for the Senate seat vacated by Dr. Sania Nishtar, with the public notice to be issued on July 9, submission of nomination papers on July 10 and 11, scrutiny on July 16, and polling on July 31.
In another development, a revised schedule has been issued for the Senate seat vacated by the late Sajid Mir, which was previously postponed due to an incomplete electoral college.
As per the new program, the revised list of candidates will be released on July 15, the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is July 16, and polling will be held on July 21 at the Punjab Assembly building.
Moreover, the ECP has announced an election schedule for two vacant National Assembly seats reserved for women from KP, previously allocated to PML-N.
A public notice will be issued on July 8, nomination papers can be filed on July 9 and 10, scrutiny will take place on July 14, and the final list of candidates will be published on July 24. As the PML-N’s priority list has been exhausted, a new one must be submitted to the Priority List Counting Officer by July 10.
Letters have also been dispatched to the Speakers of the National and Provincial Assemblies, directing them to administer oaths to newly notified members (on reserved seats as per the ECP notification issued on July 2, 2025) so they may participate in the upcoming Senate polls in KP and Punjab.
