ECP puts Imran on notice for violating by-poll code

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday issued a notice to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan for utilizing the ‘services and assistance’ of a provincial minister for upcoming by-polling in NA-45 Kurram-1 scheduled to be held on October 30.
The notice issued to PTI chairman read, “It has come to the notice of the undersigned that you, Mr. Imran Khan Ahmad Niazi, contesting candidate NA-45 Kurram-I, have solicited and utilized the services/assistance from a public office holder namely Mr. Muhammad Iqbal Wazir, Minister for Rlief, Rhebilitation and Settlement during the ongoing campaign activities and electioneering process which is tantamount to violation of para-8 of the code of conduct published by the ECP.”
The notice was issued by Abul Rauf Khan District Monitoring Officer (DMO) Kurram.
In the notice, DMO has directed Imran Khan to appear before him or send in counsel in his office on October 27.
It further asked the former PM to explain his position, further warning that disciplinary action could be taken against him if he fails to do so.
