The Election Commission has dismissed a disqualification petition filed by Azizullah Gran against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Minister Dr Amjad Ali over alleged irregularities in his asset declarations.
The petitioner had sought action against the minister, alleging misrepresentation and concealment of assets and other irregularities, said an official statement issued by the election watchdog. According to the statement, the Election Commission reviewed the relevant records, reports and submissions of the parties before deciding the matter. Following an order of the high court, a larger bench had also been constituted to hear the petition.
After a formal hearing and examination of the available record and evidence, the larger bench dismissed the petition.
The statement said the petitioner had also approached the sessions court with similar allegations but failed to produce sufficient evidence in support of his claim. That petition was also dismissed, it added.
Reacting to the Election Commission’s decision, Dr Amjad described it as a victory for “truth and justice” and congratulated Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf workers in Swat and across the country.
He said he believed in serving the people and alleged that his political opponents were unable to accept the pace of development work in Swat.
The provincial minister said he remained committed to public service and, under the vision of PTI founding chairman Imran Khan and the leadership of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, would continue efforts for the development of Swat.
