ECP noted that since LG schedule announced, CS-KP should cancel the orders of posting and transfers
PESHAWAR
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government to cancel postings and transfers orders of three Deputy Commissioners (DCs) since the orders came after the announcement of dates for the local body polls in the province.
On 23 November, the KP government had replaced DC Shangla, Orakzai, and Upper Kohistan.
However, the provincial election commissioner KP showed reservation over the move and wrote a letter to Chief Secretary (CS) KP and requested to revoke the orders of posting and transfers.
According to the letter “to ensure that elections to the local government are conducted honestly, justly, fairly in accordance with law and to ensure that the corrupt practices are guarded against, the election commission of Pakistan directed that no transfers/postings of the government Officers and Officials including Autonomous Bodies/Authorities appointed as DROs, ROs and AROs shall be made without prior approval of the Commission till further orders”.
“It is, therefore, requested that the said Notification may kindly be rescinded in the larger national interest till culmination of election process/publication of election result, please,” the letter added.
However, sources said that after the ECP letter to CS-KP the new DCs of the three districts did not take charge of their offices.
According to the ECP schedule, elections are held for village, neighbourhood and tehsil councils in 17 districts in the first phase in the province for which polling is scheduled for Dec 19.
