Event held to mark World Aids Day at HMC Peshawar

PESHAWAR
The Integrated HIV, Hepatitis and Thalassemia Control Program Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday organozed an event to mark World Aids Day. The theme of 2023 is “ Let Communities Lead”.
Director General Health Services Dr Shaukat Ali was the Chief Guest on this occasion.
The Program was also attended by PD Dr Tariq Hayat, Medical Director HMC Dr Shahzad Akbar, Dr Inamullah Khan Team Lead UNicef KP, Dr Sher Zaman Director Administration HMC, Ms Zainab Shah M&E UNDP KP.
The Director General Health Services appreciated the overall progress going on in the HIV In the current scenario, he acknowledged the support of Global Fund and UN partners in extension of the HIV Services especially under his vision and guidance, the extension of HIV treatment centers in KP which have been increased in number from 06 to 13 catering almost the entire population of KP is a milestone achieved in a very short time and providing free of cost screening, counselling and Treatment services in all the HIV treatment centers of KP.
He focused on the importance of Data Sharing by the Public and Private laboratories to have an impactful figures of the infectious diseases and that can support in proper policy making and legislation process.
DGHS also announced that Health Department has made it mandatory to conduct HIV Screening prior to any surgical procedure and already issued the notification of the same. DGHS also stated that Health Department is also working on the capacity building of overall staff of Health Department on infectious diseases under NHSP project.

Discrimination shall be avoided in the health facilities especially in cases of HIV, PPTCT services centers shall be enhanced by bringing new centers in loop in KP and awareness shall remain the focus in the fight against this deadly disease.
An awareness walk was conducted at the end of the event.
