The Excise Intelligence Bureau of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department seized 1,014 grammes of crystal methamphetamine (Ice) and arrested two alleged drug traffickers during an intelligence-based operation in Peshawar.
According to the department, the operation was the bureau’s second major anti-narcotics action in the last 24 hours.
Officials said the bureau’s B-1 Mobile Squad intercepted a vehicle near H Gol Chowk after receiving credible intelligence about the transportation of narcotics.
During a search of the vehicle, officials recovered 1,014 grammes of Ice allegedly concealed inside it.
The arrested suspects were identified as Shahzad, son of Shah Muhammad, and Nauman Khan, son of Musharraf Khan, both residents of Mohallah Daudzai, Tehkal Payan, Peshawar.
The department said a case had been registered against the suspects at the Excise Police Station, Peshawar, while further investigation was underway.
According to the Excise Department, the operation was carried out as part of the provincial government’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and on the directives of Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Minister Syed Fakhar Jehan.
The department said its crackdown against drug traffickers, particularly those involved in the trade of crystal methamphetamine, would continue across the province, adding that strict legal action would be taken against offenders in accordance with the law to protect society, especially the younger generation, from the threat of narcotics.
