PESHAWAR
Amun Taraqqi Party (ATP) chairman Muhammad Faiq Shah condemned yet another desecration of holy Quran in a far-right demonstration in the Netherlands and urged the world community to take stern actions against increasing Islamophobia.
It was reportedly that a Dutch far-right activist trampled on and tore up a copy of the Holy Quran at a demonstration outside the Turkish embassy in The Hague on Friday.
“We strongly denounce yet another abhorrent act of desecration of the Holy Quran, this time in Netherlands”,
Shah in a statement issued here on Saturday said the recurrence of such willful and vile acts is a troubling manifestation of growing hatred, racism and phobia against Muslims and their faith.
He added the repeated occurrence of such premeditated acts calls into question the efficacy of the legal framework behind which Islamophobes hide and incite hatred with impunity.
The ATP chief asserted that the exercise of the right to freedom of expression cannot be used as a smokescreen to deliberately denigrate the Holy Scriptures or personalities of any religion.
He called upon all states around the world to develop legal deterrence with a view to preventing and prosecuting such acts, in line with the responsibilities and duties enshrined in international human rights law.
He also asked the international human rights machinery to speak out against such intentional actions that constitute incitement to hate, discrimination and violence against Muslims solely because of their faith.
Shah showed serious concern over spiraling price-hike, unemployment and downfall in business, trade and industries, asking the caretaker government to take tangible steps to remove public’s miseries, promotion of businesses, trade and industrialization instead of restricting to mere statements.
The party leader severely criticized the chief commissioner of Election Commission of Pakistan over his statement, showing inability to conduct elections within 90 days of the dissolution of the National Assembly.
He once again stressed for timely holding of elections to foster democracy.
He warned delay would cause further political and economic chaos in the country.
