Amun Taraqqi Party (ATP) chairman Muhammad Faiq Shah has demanded announcement of a comprehensive compensation package for flash floods and rains hit areas of the country.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Shah asked the government to compensate over huge damages on an emergent basis that occurred as result of torrential rains and flash floods in different parts of the country.
The ATP chairman lamented that no contingency plan has been chalked out to tackle sanitation, drainage systems in every city and town and emergency situations. Why every year rain water causes huge damages, he questioned.
Though, he added this blessing of water is a guarantee of prosperity.
Faiq termed negligence of governments, slackness of relevant institutions, incompetence and mismanagement as fundamental reason of this huge human and collateral losses in heavy downpours.
He expressed grave concern over failure of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in proper planning to tackle emergency situations in natural disasters/calamities.
Shah stressed the need of constructing small water reservoirs and dams to preserve this blessing of water at an optimal level.
The ATP chief asked: “Why this great blessing in shape of water become a nuisance and trouble in every year,”
Faiq noticed a huge loss has been inflicted to crops, houses and businesses in current torrential rains and flash floods elsewhere in the country.
None of any institute is capable of working in any emergency situations, he observed.
Shah criticized the institutions as having been damaged by personal ego, interests and nepotism.
He went on to say that institutions have become a burden and cause of destruction in absence of merit.
Shah asked to immediately provide assistance and relief to helpless and miserable people that were badly hit by flash floods and heavy downpours.
