ECP says 487 notices issued for violation of local body polls conduct in KP

The Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Ali Amin Khan Gandapur has been fined by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for violation of code of conduct for the local body polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
ECP, s District Monitoring Officer Dera-Ismail Khan fined PTI Minister Ali Amin Gandapur Rs50, 000 and directed him to deposit the amount with treasury within three days, said a notification.
Earlier, a few days ago, the ECP had issued a notice to MNA Ali Amin for violating the code of conduct for the local body polls.
Ijaz Ahmad, District Monitoring Officer D.I Khan had directed the MNA to appear before the regional ECP officer but the minister failed to abide by the order.
It is pertinent to mention here that Ali Amin’s brother, Umar Amin Gandapur is a candidate for the city mayor slot and the federal minister had organized a public rally in support of his brother.
Mr Amin while addressing the rally had said that people should support his brother, adding that if his brother failed, he would not allow the rival candidate to acquire funds for developmental works in the city.
He had reportedly said that he had the authority to give funds and schemes.
Following the address in a public rally, the district monitoring officer took legal action and fined Mr Gandapur Rs50, 000 for his remarks.
While chairing a high level meeting in the office of Chief Secretary (CS) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) secretary election commission, Omar Hamid Khan said that ECP would ensure the implementation code of conduct for local government elections in seventeen districts.
He said that during the ongoing process of local government elections in the province, the ECP has issued a total 487 notices for violation of code of conduct.
Moreover, the ECP on Thursday announced that all district returning officers, returning officers have been given powers of Magistrate of the First Class until the final LG elections results are announced in KP.
“The Election Commission of Pakistan hereby authorized the District Returning Officers and Returning Officers appointed for (1st Phase) Local Government Elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, whereby polls will be held on 19-12-2021, to exercise the power of the Magistrate First Class under the Code of Criminals Procedure, 1898 (Act No, V of 1898) with immediate effect till the announcement of official results,” said the notification.
