As the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) ruled that former ruling party PTI received prohibited funds, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Thursday summoned four senior party leaders, including former National Assembly’s Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri. It is pertinent to mention here that FIA had formed a five member team to keep an eye on its investigating teams in the prohibited funding scam. On Thursday, FIA Quetta summoned Qasim Khan Suri and four other senior party leaders in line with the prohibited funding scam.
According to a notification issued by FIA Quetta, 5.3 million rupees were withdrawn from party’s account during a time span of 2011-13, while 5.5 million rupees were added to the account. These accounts were run against Suri and other party leaders’ names, the statement said.
Former NA deputy speaker, while confirming FIA’s notice said that the amount was withdrawn through party’s official account and it was spent on PTI’s political and official activities. “This amount was not transferred through my personal account,” Suri denied allegations.
Qasim Suri said that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had ruled these notices to be ‘illegal’, adding that no PTI leader will appear before FIA.
