PESHAWAR
The first-ever trial cultivation of saffron in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s South Waziristan district has proven successful.
According to district administration on Wednesday, the Agriculture Department supported and supervised the experimental cultivation, which has now begun to benefit farmers across various areas.
Farmers say that saffron is a rare and high-value crop, typically grown only in specific regions. It requires relatively little water and thrives in cold climates, making it suitable for the environment of South Waziristan.
This year, growers in Shakai, Zarmelan and Wana have reported promising results and significant profit from the crop.
Experts note that saffron has numerous health benefits and is widely used in different industries. The local farmers urged the government to give special attention to promoting and expanding saffron cultivation in the region.
