Flood emergency imposed in three more districts as flood water entered houses: KP

Emergency central room set up at CM-KP Secretariat for monitoring and coordination

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Friday extended a flood emergency to three more districts of the province as heavy rains and floods continued to batter parts of the province.
The KP government imposed a flood emergency in Charsadda Mardan and Nowsehra districts as flood water entered houses and damaged standing crops.
The administration of Charsadda issued a high flood alert after the downpour triggered flash floods in Kabul River, commonly known as Khyali River.
The Irrigation department has said that the discharge of water at Khyali River reached 2 lakh cusecs.
The district administration has set up a relief camp in the premises of Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex for people who have started evacuation from their houses due to rainwater.
According to local administration, more than 500 houses in low-lying areas of the district have been fully submerged in flash flood waters.
Deputy Commissioner Charsadda told media persons that a flood emergency has been imposed in the district and government schools in five union councils have been evacuated to accommodate local flood victims.
The areas where flash floods have caused severe damage to orchards and settlements included Katuzai, Abazai, Nasta, Dheri Zardad, Tarnab, Padang, Agra and Hisara Yasinzai.
Meanwhile, the district administration of Mardan has also issued a threat alert for flash floods and imposed “Flood Emergency” in the district.
According to a notification, “The Administration of District Mardan is pleased to impose a flood emergency in the larger public interest with immediate till further order.”
In view of the ongoing situation across the province, the provincial government has set up an ‘Emergency Central Room’ at Chief Minister secretariat to monitor flood situations across the province.
A notification issued by the CM secretariat stated that the emergency central room will coordinate with relevant stakeholders for all kinds of relief operations and information. “ It will bring the information into the notice of CM-KP and can be accessed with help of different phone numbers including UAN 091-111-712-713 Fax 091-9210707 and WhatsApp 0304- 10 33 435.
The Deputy Commissioner Nowsehra has also announced details for flood victims in the district. A statement issued here said that local administration has established three different temporary camps in the district to provide shelter to flood affected people.
