Flood victims protest in Swat over delay in relief funds

PESHAWAR: Victims affected by the floods in district Swat District on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration at Nishat Chowk in Mingora against the provincial government for not providing promised financial assistance even after passage of nine months. The protesters said that the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had approved Rs1.5 billion in relief funds for the flood victims of Swat, but the money has still not reached those affected. The demonstrators questioned where the approved funds had gone and expressed frustration over the continued delay. The protesters also criticized the newly elected public representatives from Swat, saying they had failed to understand or address the difficulties faced by the people. The demonstrators warned the government that if relief funds are not distributed to the victims by May 20, they will shut down Mingora city through a complete strike in protest. APP
