Special Assistant to Chief Minister for Information and Public Relations Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif has said freedom of speech vital for national development, saying understing limits of freedom were more essential for creating awareness and recognising certain claimable rights in democracies.
He said women’s role in the country’s development is indispensable and societies where women’s role has been curtailed are faced with numerous challenges of development and prosperity.
Barrister expressed these views while addressing a training workshop organized for the students and working women journalists of various universities of the province in a local hotel here on Monday.
The workshop was organized by the Women Media Centre.
The spokesperson of the provincial government stressed upon the participants that women journalists should come forward and play their role in the awareness of society through their work.
“Women have an important role in the development of society. Education is meaningless without proper training and understanding the value of education and knowledge,” he added.
If journalism, education, religious leaders and politicians work for public welfare, they become respectable sectors, but if these sectors start working for personal interest, distortion in the society is imminent, he added.
Barrister said maintained that freedom of expression is considered the backbone for promoting the values of democracy but there are certain limits while exercising freedom of expression.
During the address, the Special Assistant for Information said that there are contradictions in human nature but a middle way should be found to solve them, this is the real challenge.
In response to a question, he said that the values, customs and traditions of the society are included in the thinking of an individual. The individual can give the answer of right and wrong in this.
It should be noted that a training session titled “Freedom of Expression and Protection of Journalists” was organized in Peshawar, in which students from major universities of the city participated.
The objective of the workshop was to equip media students with opportunities to work in the practical field.
