PESHAWAR: The funeral prayer for Elite Force official Gulfam Khan, who embraced martyrdom during an ongoing counterterrorism operation in Shalkhosar, Upper Swat, was offered with full state honours at the Police Lines in Swat on Wednesday. The funeral was attended by the Commissioner of Malakand, the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Malakand, the District Police Officer (DPO) Swat, senior officials of the Pakistan Army and Police, as well as representatives of civil society and a large number of local residents. A smartly turned-out police contingent presented a guard of honour, paying tribute to the martyred officer’s bravery, dedication and sacrifice. Speaking on the occasion, the RPO Malakand said that martyrs of the police force are the nation’s true heroes whose sacrifices for peace and security will always be remembered. He reaffirmed that police would continue to perform their duties with determination to eliminate terrorism and protect the public. According to the police, after the funeral prayer, the body of the martyred cop was sent to his hometown in Kohat, where he will be laid to rest later today. Police said Gulfam Khan embraced martyrdom during a joint operation against terrorists in Shalkhosar, Upper Swat. The operation against militants is still ongoing. APP
