Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday visited the under-construction Jameel Chowk underpass on Ring Road, Peshawar, and reviewed the ongoing construction work and pace of progress.
Adviser on Local Government Asif Rafiq, Adviser on Education Dr Amir Abdullah and other officials accompanied him. Director General Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) gave a detailed briefing to the governor on the ongoing construction work and progress of the project.
The governor directed the officials concerned to complete construction of the underpass at the earliest to reduce traffic problems and difficulties faced by citizens.
Talking to the media on the occasion, Mr Kundi said efforts were being made to complete construction of Jameel Chowk underpass at the earliest. Its completion would improve traffic flow and facilitate citizens in commuting, he added.
He said underpasses and other necessary measures would be taken to resolve traffic problems and public difficulties at University Road and other busy places in Peshawar, and work on these projects would be started soon after approval from the departments concerned.
He said he was aware of public problems, which was why he had himself come to the site to review the pace of construction work. The Northern Bypass project would also be completed within the stipulated period, he added.
The governor appealed to citizens to remove encroachments on their own as no one had the right to occupy government land. Indiscriminate operations against encroachments were under way, he added.
Kundi thanked the federal government for providing a relief package of Rs160 billion for KP.
He said the province’s water issue had been forcefully raised before the federal government, which had acknowledged it.
